Million Dollar Fish – Northern Territory
October 1, 2019 – March 30, 2020
The NT’s Million Dollar Fish competition is on again, promising big bucks to anyone who catches specifically tagged barramundi over the summer months. There are six fish tagged at $1,000,000, 100 fish tagged at $10,000 and 20 fish tagged at $5000. The event is aimed at encouraging people to ‘stay, play and fish’ in the Top End.

And although there are many worthy events all across regional Australia throughout December, the televised Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight in Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl is arguably the biggest and the best. The largest music festival in the Southern Hemisphere is soon to return to the Australian home of country music, Tamworth. The Toyota Country Music Festival Tamworth features over 700 artists playing in 2800 scheduled events across 120 venues. There are free and ticketed events including talented buskers lining the main street. This wonderful, colourful celebration of country music is one for the bucket list.

Taste of Tasmania – Hobart, Tas
December 28, 2019 – January 3, 2020
Australia’s biggest and longest running food and wine festival, the Taste of Tasmania is a celebration of the Apple Isle’s wonderful local food, wine and produce. Held on Hobart’s harbourfront, the event is loaded with music, performances and, of course, gourmet food. There’s also a fabulous NYE party as part of the schedule.
