Did I mention that the Kwik.Camp in its base form comes in at 960kg dry? This means that a Suzuki Jimny could possibly tow it, although it would be better with something a little bigger. With a low weight and aerodynamic shape, the Kwik.Camp is bound to save fuel costs over many other campers. One of the nicest features of the Kwik.Camp is that you arrive at camp, pop the awning bracket up, undo four latches and get out your wireless remote. Press the button and the camper opens up and extends out to the driver’s side with the initial set-up taking less than 60 seconds. If it’s a quick stop you are after, fold down the back hatch that is used as steps to get into the sleeping area, and you’re in bed within a few minutes of pulling over. The next morning, you could be gone in a similar amount of time.

There are eight lockable storage areas accessible when travelling. The front pod has the largest of these storage areas, one of which houses the fridge and pantry drawers. On top of the front storage pod is a rack for firewood or any other odd-size items. Acting as a stone guard, the nose pod is shaped to deflect stones away from the tow vehicle and is treated in tough Raptor coat protecting both the paint and fibreglass.

The Y frame mono chassis is made of powder-coated DuraGal steel which accommodates the spare wheel under the trailer between the rear wheels. The standard suspension is independent with coils, however, there is an option to have airbags. An 80-litre and a 160-litre water tank provide plenty of water while travelling and the electric water pump is able to draw water from a natural water source.

Stopping power is via 12-inch electric brakes and coupling the trailer to the tow vehicle is made easy with the McHitch Uniglide. At the rear of the trailer are two adjustable stabilising legs and at the front is a solid pneumatic jockey wheel.

The large tent with tropical roof that deploys automatically as the trailer opens is a DX10 blended poly/cotton canvas. Once deployed, the tent has large screened windows that allow for light and breeze to enter the inside of the camper. A Darche 270 awning can be optioned and takes very little time to set up. Travelander has customised this with a section of canvas that zips between the tent and awning to ensure a dry entry into the tent sleeping area.

KITCHEN AND ACCOMMODATION
The kitchen slides out from under the bed area and can be used while in transport or camp mode. It can also be deployed against the trailer as in the photos or parallel to the fridge. It opens up so there are work/prep areas at both ends of the kitchen and there is a large splashback/windshield at the rear of the stove and sink. There are also two drawers that slide out from under the stove that would be suitable for cutlery but are deep enough for other items.

The fridge slide can accommodate up to an 80-litre Engel fridge/freezer and has a shelf that opens out next to the fridge for placing items as you get them out of the fridge. In front of fridge, there is a large three-level pantry drawer, which is convenient and well thought out so that small items can’t be lost while providing loads of storage.

Having two queen-size mattresses in this size trailer is unusual and sets the Kwik.Camp apart. Each mattress can be accessed separately, although I suspect families will use the tailgate stairs only to keep small kids at bay. A small, fold-up step may be required to make this work for shorter legs as the first step is a doozy.

There is additional storage under the first bed which can be raised with the help of gas struts. With the tailgate down, the large drawer is accessible even if the camper is closed. There is plenty of air and light once the canvas windows are rolled down from the inside.

There are anti-bug/white LED lights and two 12V outlets for USB adaptors. Power is supplied by an Enderdrive 120ah lithium battery and can be charged by solar or 12V vehicle input or optional 240V inlet. The switch panel is in the compartment with the fridge and hard to access if both the fridge and kitchen are out.

VERDICT
This go-anywhere camper is light, strong and can provide accommodation for a family. The ease of initial set-up is less than a minute and requires no real physical effort. The inclusion of two queen-size beds could be a big draw for families. The price is very competitive.
